Celebrating the Spirit of Competition

Announcing the Simeone Museum’s 2016 Motorcycle Exhibit – Land of the Rising Sun, Mid-Century Motorcycles and Fast From the Past

John Lawless and his cadre of bike enthusiasts have put together an outstanding show of the very best sport bikes of all types, including some real icons. For this year’s exhibit, entitled “Land of the Rising Sun, Mid-Century Motorcycles and Fast From the Past”, we’ll be featuring a stunning collection of Competition Flat Track racers, Motorcycle Drag Racers, Japanese Motorcycles from 1960-1989 and select Mid-Century Modern motorcycles that demonstrate the optimism of early postwar design. This year’s edition will mark the 8th time this great exhibit will be held at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum, and it remains a highlight on our calendar. This exhibit will run from August 20th through September 9th 2016.

The stars of this year’s exhibit include a 1973 Honda Superbike, streamlining icon 1987 Honda Hurricane, 1969 Kawasaki H2 “King of the Streets”; 1954 MV Augusta “Disco Volante”, 1952 Vincent Black Shadow (at the time the world’s fastest standard motorcycle and still a treasure) and also the famed 1958 Triumph “The Parasite” which achieved over 150 miles an hour in 10:33 seconds the quarter-mile. These are just a few of the over 40 special motorcycles on display.

We are also excited announce this year’s exhibit will be accompanied by a “Kickstart” Launch Party on Saturday, August 20th from 5:30 to 9:00 pm. Highlighting the party will be motorcycle drag racing legend Chris Hand, pilot of the Redneck Express Top Fuel bike. Chris started motorcycle drag racing in 1968 and is the 6th member of the “5 Second Club”. For more on Chris Hand, check out Cycle Drag’s profile. This party sells out every year, so definitely don’t miss this one.

Ticket sales for the Kickstart Launch Party end on Wednesday August 17th at 12:00 noon Eastern time.
